Four cars met at Tailem Bend on Sat 9am and "I spied" their way to Puppy Springs, just in time for rain to fall as the tents were being set up. Mine was giving me so much grief, if it wasn’t wet it would have been burnt, but much to my relief Perry saved the day and put it right.

After we were set up it was time for business. Tony lead us off, and after getting a bit of a feel for things we decided to tackle "the big hill". There were a few attempts that almost got there until a novice in a Toyota hit the top. This seemed to spur on the Nissan drivers who managed to conquer shortly after.

That night after Tony had displayed his gourmet ways, Fred and family arrived. This was great because now Emma was there, we had a baby sitter for Kaiden (5) and cute little Sam (3).

Sunday and we are back in the dirt again and the challenges of the first day had seemed to vanish. I placed my five year old daughter, Kaiden, at the control of our radio. This helped me and she enjoyed being part of the action (I hoped no-one else minded). After lunch Tony jumped in with me, and Lee lead us around looking for some new tracks. (I still can’t understand why Tony looked so pale that afternoon), but it was really great to hear Fred’s vehicle v8 thundering around the track. After a good rain free day it was time for tea, then Port and toasted marshmallows. This was easy because Alek (the pyromaniac) had kept the campfire roaring by supplying it plenty of TLC.

Monday came and Tony took Lee and myself off for some snatching practice whilst Fred went off for a drive with his kids and Perry & Deb stayed back to get some peace and quiet. Lee then led Tony and myself around again looking for some new tracks, he found one maybe being a little over-ambitious as it did some panel beating to his side steps. Around lunch-time we all headed home.

Thanks all for great company and making us feel welcome, plus teaching me some new skills.

Still waiting for Rob ... (maybe he’s looking for Deb’s I spy sheep!!!)

Paul Caldicott

PS: For those who pulled out "the weather was perfect".
