Fun at the 4WD & Adventure Show - October 2003
Ready, here we go
The week before the show I (JC) went to Snowy’s Outdoor and they gave me a box of pamphlets (a useful list of things to take when camping) that we could include in our show handouts. Early in the week of the 4WD Show Fred and I got together and selected series of photos for our display. This show we had decided to do a random selection of trips the club had gone on during the year.
Greg Hubbard then approached his workplace, Wayne Phillis Ford who kindly donated the laminating of the prints. Thursday afternoon Tony and Cliff meet with Ernie from Universal Canvas to pick up their show donated tent and set it up along with one of our sun shades and picture boards.
Let the Show commence!
It was a beautiful spring morning on the first morning with Fred opening the stand. I arrived about 10am and rearranged the display. It was interesting to observe as different members arrived, how often rearrangement occurred. With Tony, Sandra and Cliff arriving at our show stand soon after to assist in spreading the word.
Not long after along came Ernie to check on the state of his loaned tent, of course he did all his usual adjustments and then after a good old natter he carried out further readjustments before he left. The response was encouraging considering the crowd which was an initially bit sparse, but it did picked up as the day progressed.
Comment from Jane
On the evening of the first day Jane said you couldn’t buy anymore things because you got everything there is haven’t you? At the time I was thinking "I’m working on it darling".
The Show continues
Day 2 was very blustery, with all the display boards having to be pegged down and of course rearranged. A lot more people were there and along with that came many more enquiries. I arrived again at about 10am to a sun shade almost full of Wanderers. There was Kym, John, Jack, Perry, Tony, Sandra with Fred and Rob arriving later in the day.
Again we had great participation from various club members, dropping in from time to time and many more enquiries.
Feedback told me that day 3 was a bit wet at times but all and all another great day. Unfortunately for me I had other commitments and couldn’t make it. We had a lot of enquiries and at our monthly meeting which was the next Friday we were visited by some interesting people due to them visiting our stand at the show and our website.
Did I find another valuable camping necessity? You probably guessed the answer, yes of course I did.
