Frankton Working Bee ....
Bill & Carol, Sonja, Ben & family, Tony & Sandra, Cliff & Jean all arrived on Friday afternoon just as the truck load of quarry sand arrived. We set up camp and some of us had a drive around the track, then it was time for happy hour. It was obvious the sheep had been using the shed for shelter and had left their calling cards behind, not too flash in there. The mini bob-cat we were to hire for the weekend broke down on Friday and was not able to be fixed in time, so Tony packed a couple of wheel barrows and shovels etc. onto the trailer saying, "We will get something done".
We all enjoyed the campfire and good night sleep to be woken by (sounded like thousands) of sheep coming our way. Tony decided to get up and start shovelling out the shed in case we needed to shelter in there as the weather looked threatening. Cliff and Jean got the fire going again Ben and Cliff helped remove the river rubble, by then everyone was up and about and we all had breakfast. Other members started to arrive during the morning and before long we and a great team of people working together clearing, barrowing, moving sand, bringing pavers, cleaning pavers. The floor was started and the challenge was on, thanks to Dean and Allan. The team got into a system and worked till lunch time and then took a break. WELL DONE! The floor was finished in a day, complete with cemented edges. It looks great and was christened that evening as we sat around the pot belly stove admiring our work.
Now it was time to play - lock the hubs, into the dry creek beds. Sonja and Sandra were not too sure about washing machine hill, but lived to tell the tale. The rain did make the track a bit slippery and more interesting for some! A great time was had by all, happy hour came and went, camp ovens were stoked up, advice was given, new pots seasoned, rain became steady. Thank goodness for the shed floor and Rob’s trap shelter which kept us all dry throughout the weekend. Everyone did their bit and worked really well as club members should.
We and a special night on Saturday with Bill and his guitar, singing his bush ballads for us by the campfire. Thanks mate it was great.
Some members came up for the day, some for the weekend to help. To everyone a big THANKYOU, every bit helps.
Sandra & Tony
