Trip Report - Victorian High Country Mk 2, Feb 2003

Due to fires in the Victorian High Country we decided to offer the interested members an alternative trip, 8 days fishing at Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula. 6 - 14 Feb.

Rob & Roncie declined due to Business commitments, Ruth & Ian decided to come. Cliff, Jean & Evie declined due to a social engagement.

The first few days were a bit windy, so we explored the Yorke Peninsula. We went South of Edithburgh, Pt. Turton (and a beach drive to) Hardwicke Bay, Yorketown, Wool Bay, Pt. Vincent, Pt. Giles, Corny Point and Ardrossan.

When the wind dropped we went fishing and the first set back was when the anchor rope broke, we had to return to replace the anchor.

The girls caught some Snook, Ruth’s first Snook since becoming a blonde. We finished with 1 squid, 6 Snook, 72 Tommy ruffs and 257 Garfish.

The girls discovered a little coffee shop where the owner makes her own cheesecakes & desserts. We estimate their mortgage payment will be made for a few months due to the girls custom.

Snoopy & I returned from a hard day’s fishing to find the girls enjoying a glass of red with a stranger, then Ruth traded the use of tongs for some crabs.

Everyone ended up with sunburn, Jeanne & Ruth on their shoulders and me in the eyes from water reflection, but having a good camping spot with shade from a big tree, Minors, Rainbow Lorikeets and Magpies joining us for mealtime, our own camp kitchen at the Edithburgh Caravan Park, good weather and plenty of fish to eat made it a top trip.
