Not the Argadell Station Trip Report ....
10 vehicles arrived at Port Wakefield Information Centre by 9 am Saturday 15th May for a long weekend at Argadell Station. On the way, we got to see the beautiful Lochiel Loch Ness Monster which was out of water and then onto Mambray Creek for everyone to fuel up. Next was the last leg of the trip up and on taking the lovely scenic drive into Argadell Station, Graeme decided that it was time to see how it was to have a flat tyre on his new car. After a short pit stop where the pit crew sprang into gear, quickly changed the tyre in about 10 minutes, we continued on to reach out camping site by about 1 pm. After setting up our camps, all decided to go for a drive up to "Oh S..T" Hill, except us who went back to Quorn and ended up in Port Augusta to get a new tyre. Once fitted, we headed back to camp where everyone was sitting around a nice camp fire. Only four (Dean, Debbie, Graeme and Sharon) stayed until stumps being 11.30 pm.
On Sunday we set off in the morning to Mount Arden. It was a spectacular view, especially being 854 metres above sea level. We came back down and then went onto the Heysen Trail with more beautiful scenery and then back to camp for lunch. We left again around 1 pm and toured around more of the property for more breathtaking views and of course more great four wheel driving by all.
Before going back to camp we decided to do Ram’s Head Hill which looked quite steep from a distance. It was only 402 metres above sea level. However the quote of the weekend was from Chris before tackling this track, who said that he had left the Wife Control out of the car for this one (that’s just in case you missed that Margie). We were back at camp by about 3.30 pm where Paul and Barb were suppose to have the fire burning for the roasts that were to be cooked that night ... after dribbles and for Tony to make scones. The last morning we woke up to a cooler day with a few rain drops. We all decided to pack up and go for a drive before we left for home. Chris went for a loop around the camp area and found some Yellow Foot Rock Wallabies up the hill. Andrew and Sarah went off for a walk before we all left camp at ¼ to 11 with the rain getting a little (not much) heavier. At last the dust was settling!! We took a last drive up to Buckaringa George only to find that the gate was locked.
A Big Thanks to Tony and Sandra for taking over as trip leader. It was a good weekend with great company.
