Cockles, Muscles & Other Things

Carrieton Gourmet Weekend Menu As reported earlier our hosts, Jayne & Phil, provided and cooked most of our meals for the trip.

Friday Night
Nibbles, cheese, cabana, dips & crackers Tomato vegetable soup, chicken & corn soup, sausage rolls.

Saturday Barb-a-cue Lunch
Locally made sausages & bacon sandwiches

Saturday Evening Meal
Chicken, beef & lamb camp roasts, butternut pumpkin, cauliflower cheese & other assorted vegetables. This was followed by apple crumble with custard & cream, then scones with jam for afters.

All this cost us $10.00 per head to which Jayne & Phil complained that we paid them too much. Jayne & Phil thanks again for your hospitality.

Shallow Puddles & Loud Members
The reason Rick’s vehicle had problems on the Cosy Coorong Weekend was that the air filter baffles which should have been fitted under the passenger side front mudguard weren’t there. So that’s how the water got into his engine and guess what? There still hasn’t been any fitted to his car.

Rick & Cindy joined our conservative group on Saturday morning of the Carrieton Gourmet Weekend from then on the communication level increased considerably. Then Saturday evening after a considerable quantity of medication had been consumed most of the groups’ volume increased, especially Rick’s. Jayne & Phil’s closest neighbours, who are some 8klms away, said they could here a loud fog horn type noise on occasions.

Cockles
On the Saturday night after the Brisbane Lions had won and were going to play in the AFL Grand Final and I was sitting in Townsville minding my own business when my mobile phone rang.

Surprise, surprise it was Rick, (a Port Power supporter) wanting to know if my son Jason and I would like to have one cockle on the outcome of the Grand Final? He sounded a bit unsure and being very, very frugal (frugal not feral) he stipulated it was to be one cockle not a bag of them. We both jumped at the chance trying hard to up the ante but to no avail.

Muscles
Rumour has it that at the start of the match the Nankivell (Power) home was locked up tight with all the doors & windows tightly shut and the lights off. Apart from the occasional muffled cheer and sigh nothing much changed until almost the end of the third quarter. When it was reported that the T/V lamp had been turned on and the curtain in the toilet had been partly opened.

This could have been a sigh of confidence slowly returning or maybe it was the result of something consumed the night before? From the start of the last quarter sighs of life rapidly increased to a crescendo towards the end of the game (the last 5 mins) when it was reported that both Rick & Cindy were seen dancing on the roof. Passers-by had mixed feelings whether they were dancing or fighting to see who would hold their Port Power supporters flag. Remember: don’t ever let the truth get in the way of a good story.

The bet will be paid in full on the night of the October meeting.
