Cozy Coorong ....
What a fantastic and interesting weekend!
We all met at Tailem Bend on Saturday morning and travelled on down to the motel to be met by JC and Jane who stayed Friday night. After checking in JC informed us that the strawberries in the Meningie supermarket were delicious and that they had already bought 1|2 dozen punnets, it must of been a fun Friday night. We all stocked up on what was left of the strawberries then headed off down to the Coorong.
The driving was great and we met up with 2 of Ricks fishing mates who tagged along. Tony ‘pretended' to struggle on the track, but we know he was making it more of a challenge for Rick. We stopped for lunch and Ricks mates headed off for some more fishing. We then started back. On the way back we came across a particularly hazardous 25mm water crossing. Half of us were through with barely a splash of water on our tyres, then it was Rick and Cindy’s turn, they went through at snails pace and stopped dead 1/2 way across, somehow they had managed to take water into their diesel engine.
Gordon and Chris in their Frontera come to the rescue and towed them from the perilous puddle.
For 2 hours the bonnet was up and a game of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? started: asking the audience and calling friends on mobiles trying to get some advice. After removing the pipe from the turbo and the glow plugs the engine was turned over and water blown out of the cylinders and turbo.
Everything was put back together with no spare bits and the engine started, off we set again. Paul and Paula decided it would be fun to bog their vehicle on the beach and take a tyre off its rim. A large hole was dug and the tyre changed, with some more hole digging and forward and reverse gears they were out and we continued on. We stopped again soon when paul spotted Ricks fishing mates and decided they really needed to know about Ricks misfortune. Rick and Cindy stayed to fish and we headed back with Jane winning the ETA competition for getting back to the motel. Quick change and all met up for dinner. The food was delicious and the wine was flowing.
Rick and Cindy joined us a bit later from their fishing trip after helping someone who had hit a kangaroo in their car. Rick bought bottles of wine for the bush mechanics.
Sunday morning we all went our separate ways: JC and Jane on to Victoria, Tony and Sandra to do some more exploring, Paul, Paula, Rick and Cindy home to watch the football and Gordon and Chris to play golf. Thank you all for a fun weekend and remember: Never let the truth get in the way of a good
story.
