Saturday 9 am, 6 vehicles departed Tailem Bend for Dorado Downs.
2 to arrive later that night
11"ish" we began our first drive under clear skies through the Mallee. The sand was damp and firm, although on the steep inclines and declines the tracks were deeply rutted.
Trying to be the first to successfully traverse the more difficult hills was very competitive.
The afternoon's drive continued the rivalry between owners of different vehicles.
We had clear skies that night, cool but not cold. There was the usual chatter around the campfire. A little scheming was hatched later that night involving letter changes to Paul's MULPA TOURS sign. A plan was devised and later put into action. MULPA TOURS signage became MA/PA TOURS. Rained overnight, awoke to clearing skies.
As people noticed the artistry to the Mulpa sign, Paul remarked jokingly "there are some bas...s around here".
As we prepared for our morning drive my Nissan had a fuel leak coming from the pump. I stayed back to assess the problem. Dean led the group out.
Paul & Barb. stayed back at camp for the afternoons drive as did my vehicle. Paula offered me the use of her Prado to drive that afternoon. Sandra remarked, "don't need a step ladder to get in here, it’s very quiet & comfortable, plenty of power!!!"
Back by 3pm, Paul had the fire started as we needed plenty of coals for our combined cook out that evening.
At 4"ish" Paul & Paula supplied snacks & nibbles for happy hour. Thankyou.
4.30 the cooks started heating up their camp ovens.
Meals supplied & cooked
Alan, Ineka, Debbie & Dean Marinated beef
Rob & Justin Bolar roast
Sarah & Andrew Rolled chicken roast
Roger & Meredith (1st time visitors) Lamb roast
Paul & Barbara Baked potatoes & onion in the coals with pumpkin & corn
Sandra & Tony Apple crumble, bread & butter pudding with fresh whipped cream
We were all able to get a good serve of each cooked meal. Yummmm
I personally want to thank each and everyone of our cooks for preparing a great meal for all to share. THANKYOU
Rain again overnight, skies looked threatening in the morning. A couple of vehicles went out to try their skills again, the rest began to pack up tents as they dried.
THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR COMPANY.
Tony and Sandra
P.S. Paul C. and his 80 series was the most successful at the hill climbs.
