Katarapto Creek ....
Leisurely 10am departure Saturday. Paul, Paula, Kaiden, Daniel, Rick & Cindy.
Camped at Cobdogla caravan park, meet up with Robroy, Maggie and Gareth.
BBQ tea, then off to Berri club. club member Bill Bedford sings country and entertains for 3 and a half hours. Danced all night, kids had the free run of the Club playing video games .
Birthday cake for Colleen Bedford. Colleen controls the mixer box for Bill. Bill’s 5yr old grandson sings alongside him with his own guitar.
Threw jocks on stage. Some of the oldies were shocked as Bill tries to explain about his "groupies".
Sunday morning, Paul and Rick drive back to Berri, stopping at various $2 shops. After lunch, discover sand tracks and sand bowl a couple of k's from Berri. Bill, Paul and Rick have enjoyable play in sand. One gigantic mound takes numerous attempts to conquer.
Paul makes complete fool of himself trying to be a hero to recover Hyundai who's owner was only practicing sand wedge golf shots (not digging himself out).
Further exploration along the Murray takes us to a dead end. Convoy disbands with Paul heading back to Adelaide and Bill back to the Club Manager’s home.
Rick and Cindy soldier on to find elusive camp at Katarapto creek. Tactics work as we spend a peaceful night around the campfire at an isolated campsite by ourselves.
Peaceful Monday morning until Rob and Gareth rock up to steal my fish.
Half an hour later, Bill and Marilyn cruise in. (Colleen left in Bill’s other cruiser to take grandson Corey home to Pirie.)
Gareth had an absolute ball, catching first a turtle, then a nice callop and finally a carp.
Gareth tried to take Robroy for a canoe ride, but with Rob’s knuckles turning white gripping on to the river reeds, Gareth had to return him to shore.
Gareth kept us warm all afternoon with his fire-wood gathering.
A relaxing afternoon around the campfire until we packed up around 4.30 and headed home, stopping off at Blanchetown for a counter meal.
Arrived home about 8.30 still with the memories of Gareth's' everlasting smiles (see pics) from his fishing exploits.
