Peake Trip Report ....
We arrived at Peake Saturday morning to join the others that made the journey Friday night. We had heard the rumors that Bill (the trip leader) is a very punctual leader and we were very anxious to arrive on time.
On arrival we discovered Carol had an operation during the week an Bill had to temporarily pass the trip duties to Lee & Nicky. All pressure off start time of 9am slide out to 10am.
14 cars split into 3 groups under the lead of Tony, Lee and Fred. We had the dubious honour of going with Fred along with Scott & Debbie, Iggy & Jocelyn, Graham & nephew. Once Iggy had his vehicle in 4wd our group had a pleasant morning navigating the sandy terrain.
All 3 groups meet back at camp for lunch and a very sneaky raffle. We were lucky enough to win the booby prize, hence the writing of this report. (The best $2 ever spent.) We don’t like to be greedy and did try to give our prize away on several occasions but for some reason we had no takers.
After lunch we headed on the second of the three tracks, which comprised of sandy hills and steep descents. What a remarkable vehicle the Nissan is!
Back at camp for happy hour where Bill & Carol had arrived to join in the fun. More raffles and a coin throwing competition were organized to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctors.
The usual fun and vehicle comparisons took place over many well deserved beverages round the campfire, where many camp ovens cooked various types of food. Thanks to Sharon to the late night snack of rocky road, very tasty.
Woke up Sunday morning to the smell of breakfast cooking. What a treat we were in for. For a small fee we enjoyed bacon, sausages and eggs followed by pancakes. Bill & Carol and volunteers did a superb job. Note to future trip leaders: great idea and if you could do a dinner as well that would be fantastic.
We spent another couple of hours playing in the sand before packing up and going home.
To anyone that wants to know the policeman’s name, ask Bill.
(So were we really raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors or should it be the Flying Corolla)?
