Roonka - 2004-12-06 ....

The weather forecast for the weekend was predicated to be hot and over 30° and as the man said, it certainly was. Although this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm and fun we all had it did bring in an army of ants. Most people arrived on Friday night to set up early. Once settled we all formed a circle between Paul & Barb’s trailer and Andrew & Sarah’s trailer. The night air was calm, the moon was full then with beverages consumed we relaxed and conversed and had a lot of laughs. Later that evening Rob bought out his keyboard, which was quickly taken over by Sharon and Amber who formed a duet.

Saturday morning we awoke by the sound of chirping birds around the campsite and on Carol’s swag. Chris and Marg bought their boat along and for anyone who was up to the task of riding the bisket while being towed behind the boat were welcomed. This was a favourite activity for the kids. We hired a couple of canoes from the Wardens that where used to either travel in the Murray or to paddle in the billabong. The billabong proved to be a valuable asset for both the kids and some bigger kids like Tony & Sandra who used the flying fox for entertainment. An enjoyable refreshing swim by the girls only club was taken in the Murray later as the day heated up.

Preparation to the hall took place on Saturday afternoon with an arrangement of Xmas decorations. We even had a Xmas Tree where the gifts were placed, for those who were lucky enough to win the raffle draw. While the food was been cooked and salads prepared by the club members Paul C. arranged a party of interested drivers to tackle the Morgan quarry and then after the drive to the local pub for thirst quenching refreshments. We arrived back to roonka in time for the happy hour.

Our Saturday night meal started with Jill’s succulent entree servings of prawn cocktails followed by tuna or chicken Volovents. The main meal, prepared by Barb and Carol, was served consisting of 3 oven cooked Snapper, Calamari, chicken, chips and a variety of salads. Once our appetite was quelled, an array of deserts was served including ice cream and triffle. With the dinner finished and the raffle prizes won, Rob started some fierce action happening with the auctioning off his Xmas tree. A grand total of $23.00 was raised and thanks went to Paul & Michelle who then gratefully donated the Xmas tree to FPP School. As the night drew on we left the hall and convened around the familiar campsite for more layback relaxing night activity.

On behalf of everyone who attended the weekend thanks to Barb, Jill and Carol who made the Xmas event happen. Thankyou to the many other helpers throughout the weekend with cooking and cleaning and a brief mention to Paul F. for his negotiation skills to have separate groups clean the toilets.

Can’t wait for the next Xmas event.

Ben

PS Rick what do you think of Andrew’s fish?
