10th Birthday Celebrations at Tanunda
The end of work on Friday afternoon signaled the start of a weekend for our club to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. It was raining as we headed up to the Tanunda caravan park and our thoughts of getting wet while setting up were dispersed during a clearing of the weather. There was a small group of us on Friday night enjoying the evening by the log fire. Casual conversation and laughs with a few drinks past the night away.
On Saturday morning, our little group began to swell with the oncoming of more club members. After breakfast, the caravan Park Managers, Tony & Diane welcomed us with morning tea/coffee and fabulous home cooked scones. Before long, we divided into 2 groups the first lead by Graeme and Sharon and the second lead by Bill and Carol. We all visited our first local winery, the Stanley Brothers Winery on the outskirts of Tanunda. Here the friendly staff tempted us with their selection of fine wines.
The agenda of wineries to visit and the time allocated soon set our group on the move. The next winery, Peter Lehmen was close by and when driving up to cellar doors the grandeur of the establishment soon spilt into front foyer. The staff was helpful and with a country fire to warm our bones, the cellar wine tasting experience was pleasant. Each winery had its own sense of being and the Richmond Grove having its own bell tower look is no exception.
On to the chateau Tanunda were we once again met up with Bill and Carol’s group and here, we tasted the wines and played a relaxing game of croquet. Here I was tempted and purchased a fine Liqueur Muscat, brandy and Semillon from a small wine maker supported by the Chateau.
For Lunch, we returned to the Caravan Park for a short break before heading off to the Keg factory to view their barrels. The tour here was short enough to be able to squeeze in another winery visit so we headed of to Bethany and to taste it’s white Port.
Around 4 o’ clock and we knew happy hour was closing in so we left and headed back to camp for the refreshments. After relaxing we were ferried off to the Tanunda club for tea where 41 of us celebrated the Wanderers Club 10th year Anniversary. Tea was ordered and served up and what a lovely dish it was.
Now with our bellies full we were ferried back to the caravan park and here Fred lead the show with the cutting of the cake. The celebrations that night were enjoyed by the camp fire as we saw the night out.
