The Firemen’s Ball
Trip members; Kym & John, Cindy & Rick, Sandra & Tony, Chris & Gordon, Deb & Perry, Sarah & Andrew, Gill & Terry and Jane & JC
In the planning stages hotel packages were available for those of us who would be too fatigued to return home in the wee hours of Sunday morning. This year there where 2 hotel packages available and Rick went for the up market one. Obviously truck driving is more lucrative than controlling weather. There were several large vampire moths circling him again, obviously trying to take their share of the contents of his wallet when he was paying his bill (they wouldn’t accept payment in 5cent coins). Sarah & Andrew, Kym & John, Deb & Perry and Jane & JC all took advantage of the Stamford Plaza package.
Snow White & Prince Charming, sorry Sandra & Tony, arrived in a Pumpkin Coach pulled by 20 white horses - well maybe I exaggerated a bit - a limmo. Gillian & Terry and Chris & Gordon were there with their mode of transport a mystery to me - but then again a few things on the night were mysterious due to the fact I had a minor overdose of my medication.
Our meeting point for this trip was to be in the foyer of the Stamford Plaza; from there we went across North Terrace to the Convention Centre. Soon we were all milling around with the other guests quaffing pre-dinner wine, beer & fruit juices which were also included in the price.
It wasn’t long before we were all seated and Cornesy & the 5AA Rock ‘n Roll All-Stars were rocking the ballroom. Great music, food and company with everybody dressed to kill, even Rick. Early in the evening when the raffle for the table centre piece was occurring there was some collusion & rigging happening with Tony looking very guilty but claiming he had been framed.
Gillian & Terry won the table raffle at table No.6 and showed some good moves on the dance floor.
Fred & Ginger, sorry I mean Tony & Sandra, with great poise glided gracefully around & around the dance floor most of the evening, giving a sparkling performance. Tony must have grazed before the ball because he seemed unusually calm at meal time, although the usual gleam was in his eyes.
Cindy seemed to have all the right moves on the floor and Rick - what can you say about Rick?
Kym & John’s dance steps were thought to be tribal, with a lot of rhythm but not a lot of co-ordination with arms, legs & heads going everywhere.
Deb, Perry, Chris & Gordon were very dashing as they danced the night away.
Jane elegantly graced the dance floor.
Then there was JC, we are not sure what he was on or what he was doing - maybe it was an attempt to perform a fertility ritual? What ever it was he failed. All of our ladies looked lovely and the blokes, well they tried.
All too soon and the ball was over, where had the hours gone? They were turning the lights off and closing the doors that meant time to go. A night of good food, an awesome band, a great venue and as always the great company, what more could you ask for?
Jane & JC slept in until 9.30 in their king size bed; lucky check out time wasn’t until 11.00am. It was down to a scrumptious breakfast then home and as usual, Wanderers you were great.
JC
PS. Sandra & Tony were seen staggering down North Terrace, Tony holding a Queensland Blue Pumpkin and Sandra barefoot holding 1 glass slipper ...
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!
