Skytrek
Well Debbie, Chelsea and I left home around 4:30pm on the Friday afternoon on our way up to Ororroo, I found my car to be abnormally sluggish - (almost like a Toyota - ha ha) that night we arrived at Ororroo at around 7pm to catch up with Bill and Carol, Gordon and Chris, Andrew and Sarah at the Commercial Pub, shortly thereafter Bill and Colleen joined us. At around 9pm we decided to head back to the Ororroo caravan park to have a few more drinks and a few games of table tennis. Chris, Margie and Gareth came later Friday night and stayed in the cabin.
6am Saturday morning I woke up to clean my air filter on my car thinking that it maybe the cause for the poor performance of the car. After breakfast and a couple of strong coffee's we were ready for departure at 9am. Despite the cleaning of the air filter, still there was no change in power on our travels to Hawker. I called ahead to Bill and Carol to let them go ahead, but as good Wanderers they all pulled over to help and decided between us that the likely problem was the fuel filter - so onward bound to Hawker we went.
At Hawker I purchased a new fuel filter and after fitting it decided to test it and as I was having problems with passing 2000 revs prior to the new filter I proceeded past and up to an amazing 3000 revs down the street and on to the main highway, did a u-turn and came back, feeling good that my car was now fixed, only to be told off by an aggressive police officer threatening I would lose my license for driving with out due care through (his town). So that all aside we were off to enjoy our leisurely weekend. On our way to the Sky Trek we stopped into the Arkaba Station where (Toyota Bill) dropped off his trailer, as we went in the entrance there was a nice water crossing - deep for some, shallow for others. The rest of the drive was rather nice with no real difficulties on the way.
It was time to head to Willow Springs for camp - arriving at around 3:20pm and setting up camp at a rather nice camp site despite the rather full long drop (short drop). That night after a good feed we were entertained by Toyota Bill with his great singing around the fire.
9am departure for Sky Trek our first stop was at the Willow Springs followed by some Aboriginal Engravings. We spent morning tea at the Old Moxan's Hut. Next we travelled through to Barytes (point 30) which is used in paint, brake linings, glass, paper, linoleum and barium meal.
Our next lookout was the Murray's lookout on the way up to the great Mount Caernavon trig point @ 920m above sea level. Heading back to camp and the tempting happy hour nearby we dropped into Skull Rock for a few snap shots.
The time had arrived, it was happy hour and we were heading up to a look out to experience a brilliant sunset over Wilpena Pound and surrounding ranges which we have some great photo's to remember it by, it was great!
Once the sun had gone down we were ready for the warm fire to sit by and some more of Bill's singing. We were testing Bill with requests and which I must admit he did very well to remember all the words to them (well done Bill).
Monday morning after a great weekend it was time for the long trip home and come back to reality.
Thanks heaps for the great company, singing and trip.
Dean, Deb and Chelsea
