Naidia
We set out Friday afternoon and met up with Debbie, Dean and Chelsea and Chris and Margie at The Rocking Horse. Chris was towing his luxurious creation "Chris’ Crapper" - a portable toilet with coloured lights inside. We arrived at Naidia to find JC already set up with help from Shelley and Eric.
On Saturday morning some of the guys went out to check out the driving condition. Then it was the girls turn to drive. We drove out to some sand hills and practiced creeping over the edge and not touching the brakes or accelerator on the way down, a little bit scary at first but I soon got the hang of it. Going back up was a lot more fun! We also did some stall starts and reversing back down the slopes. Then it was back to camp for lunch. Later in the afternoon some of the girls went back out for another go. Then Jane arrived for a visit in time for happy hour.
Sunday morning we packed up while the others went for another foray into the sand.
Some of those who went sand driving had just a little too much confidence. Kym found that although you make it up a sand dune once, doesn’t mean you will make it the next time. When Shelley had felt she should have had her turn at the big sand dune from the morning, we returned there on our way back to camp. Shelley made it with no problems, but Kym, who had made it earlier missed out this time. This ended in a war between driver and sand dune. With some expert and calm training by John and a re-think on strategy, and amidst cheers from others, (probably from relief that they could finally go) the Delica mastered the sand dune once again.
Thank you everyone for a great weekend, particularly to our very patient trainers and partners, I hope we didn't give you too many white knuckle moments!
We also bought along our new puppy Buster who is 12 weeks old. He would like to thank his babysitters - Rex, Zena and Chuppy who played with him and tolerated him all weekend and let him run round with their pack.
It was great to be able to have the chance to try this things we sit and watch our guys try. Thanks heaps to those who either trained or wife swapped so we could try extreme sand driving. The ’Crapper’ is amazing, I think also that a big thanks needs to go to Chris who took care of the packing up of the crapper, which is no mean feat.
