Christmas in July

Saturday, 15th July

Christmas in July. Who would have thought it possible? Maybe it was thought of by a car salesperson, or a politician looking for an extra bonus. It doesn’t matter because it sounds like a good excuse for a get together with the Wanderers.

The venue was held in a place called the Vine Inn in Nuriootpa about 40+ k’s N.E. of Elizabeff ,oops, Elizabeth on the Sturt Hwy. Shelley and I arrived about 6pm, which was 1 hour before feeding time. Why so early? Well I told Shelley that it would be nice to go for a walk along the main street first. What I didn’t tell her was that I really wanted to be the first to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what I wanted for Christmas.

A quick look around the carpark told me that we had even beaten Santa. A slow look around the carpark and there it was. A big charcoal coloured Delica. Fred must have had the same idea. After finding our way inside we found Fred sitting with several other Wanderers. Did they know of Fred’s plan? I bet not.

About 6.30 the group wandered (as Wanderers do) into the dining room. The table was taken over by 21 of the club’s finest (?) The rest of the club’s finest either had other plans or looked outside and saw the not so nice weather, but as things go we all can’t go everywhere can we?

The meal was great. Choices ranged from the all time classic schnitzel to sumptuous seafood. The only complaint I heard was from me. My meal was getting the better of me, but being from Elizabeff er Elizabeth I don’t like to be beaten. It hurt but I won. Drinks were varied, ranging from bottled water to beer to the area’s finest wines.

After some time, it was time for Shelley & I to head back home as we only went to Nuri to meet Santa oops I mean to dine with the Wanderers. It was a wonderful time and the Vine Inn is A 1 in all aspects.

By the way, no matter how hard I tried the car did run out of fuel. (or did it ?)

Until next time we meet
