New Years Eve at Parsons Beach

We arrived late in the afternoon on Thursday 29th December 2005, after an enjoyable 2 hour drive to find Chris, Gareth, Paul, Kym and John relaxing already at Paul and Barbs shack.

Friday morning came with a clear sky so Chris and Gareth went fishing in Paul’s boat and Amber, Hannah and Tom went in Ben’s boat. Both boats caught garfish but our best result was a good size whiting caught by Hannah. During the day other club member’s arrived. This included Stuart and Karyn, Deb, Dean and Chelsea, Andrew and Sarah, Barbara and Margie, Cathy, Gary and Beth and Bruce and Jill.

By dinner time most people had arrived and set up camp. At this time Ben, Andrew, Dean and Gareth thought they would try their hand at dabbing for garfish, while Chris and Thomas kept in contact from the shore as well as shining car lights to guide them back. May I say their 3 hour effort was very rewarding with only 1 Garfish caught.

As the boys enjoyed their boating, most of the remaining group took a lovely after dark walk along the beach. This is where some believed they saw a shark while others believed it to be a dolphin, but we will never know! Saturday was a very hot day so we all ventured down to the beach, again where some enjoyed fishing while others enjoyed a relaxing swim.

New Years Eve well what a great night! Alcohol consumption was at its peak. Most people enjoyed our usual dance mix while Hannah enjoyed a very large Huntsman spider climbing up her back. There were sparklers sparkling, poppers popping and thanks to Sarah and Andrew glow bangles glowing for everyone to celebrate the new year.

Sunday was followed with a very cooler day, where it rained for most of the day. This was when Ben, Gary and Cathy decided to venture to the sand hills for some sand driving experience on the tracks. While most others sat and enjoyed each others company. Paul and John unfortunately needed to do minor repairs to the out house and I must say they both proved to be real men. Sunday evening we enjoyed a very nice roast dinner at the Minlaton RSL Club which was very yummy. This is where Paul had received donations in his hat from club members as well as outsiders as he had placed his hat on the floor and people misunderstood it requiring donations.

Monday morning most club members headed for the roads early while the others stayed on to enjoy a couple more enjoyable days at the shack. I take this opportunity on behalf of my family and all other club members to thank Paul and Barbara for their wonderful hospitality and for opening their shack up for all of us to enjoy !!!!

A great weekend enjoyed by all.

Ben
