Ten Pin Bowling Night

Margie and I were not planning to go to this social event as we had to attend a farewell dinner for her parents who were returning home after their holiday here in S.A. Dinner ended early so we thought we would join the "teams with themes" for a bit of moral support.

We arrived to find John and Kym all dressed up in pink clothes with pink feathers wrapped around their necks. I was not sure if this was the way they normally dressed so didn’t say anything until Gary arrived in a one-piece, pink striped jump-suit complete with pink hat that had a flashing light in the shape of a heart on it. Cathy was also dressed in pink. So I now assumed that their theme for the evening was PINK. (Or they are all just weird) (Or PINK and weird).

Anyway, the rest of the teams arrived and they stuck us all in the far back corner of the building. Not knowing the rules of the game or how it all worked, Margie and I sat and watched everyone play their first game and were amazed to see young Daniel get the same score as his dad Paul.

After the first game I was approached by the PINK team to play for Cathy who was in a bit of pain from a recent operation. I gladly accepted the challenge as I thought that I could not make a fool of myself, after all I was playing with men dressed in PINK. So after getting instructions from John on how to play (roll the round thing at the white things down there), I stepped up for my first go at ten pin bowling.

I could not have gotten off to a worse start if I tried. I knocked over all the white things, got a X for my score and the scoring machine said it was on strike! Everyone was pointing and laughing and clapping at my clumsiness. I didn’t let it bother me and carried on playing even though they wrapped me in pink feathers to make me feel like I was part of the team. I ended up coming last out of our team as I had the highest score (106) followed by John (100) then Gary (89) and the winner Kym (84).

We all then gathered around for the prize giving. I could not hear much of what was said as the music was quite loud but made a note of who got prizes and grabbed the score sheets to figure it all out later when I wrote this article. As far as I can figure, Jasmin and Hannah got "best dressed ladies" and John and Garry got "best dressed men". Then Ben got the booby prize for getting the highest score (154). Nobody got a prize for the lowest score though, so I am not sure how it all works. Go figure. Not that any of that really matters as everyone there seemed to have an extremely good time as is the norm when the social committee organise an event.

Thanks to Shaz and Sonya for another great night out. For the record there were a total of 30 people in attendance.
