Trip members - Gill & Terry, Kym & John, Jill & Bruce, Deb & Perry, Deb & Dean, Lynn & Fred, Shaza & Graeme, Sarah & Andrew and Jane & JC The Gathering Point Prior to being seated for the ball we all gathered in the outer reception area for drinks and a good chat. Some very strange things about this trip, there were no flies, no dust, but there were immaculately dressed (gorgeous) Wanderers and there weren’t any stars in the sky only fancy drapes. The Coffee ClubThis year our sponsors from the Coffee Club Henley Beach franchise were also involved in the ball. They did so by providing a coffee cart at the rear of the hall where you could get coffee & hot chocolate all night. Let the Fun Commence We soon move into the Convention Centre along with the other 630 people. After an opening address, Club Schmalz, our band for the evening started their first bracket of songs and the fun commenced. No Campfire but we Wined & Dined We danced, we talked, we ate, and we drank over and over again, what a night was had by all of us. JC as the Firefighters Foundation website photographer, or so he said, worked the room again. Where oh where was John H (Ned)? He met and hung out with the sound engineers for a lot of the night attending to special IT business, or so he said. The unofficial word on that was he was actually everybody’s groupie but don’t tell anyone, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.Wanderers to the Rescue During the evening Bruce W had a minor medical problem and went to the hospital for tests. Jill and Rosemary left with him leaving the Coffee Cart a little short staffed. But as you would have expected the Wanderers rallied to the cause and admirable assisted Marie in providing service to the large crowed of patrons. The Clock Struck 12.30ishAll too soon the ball was over, the coach turned into a pumpkin and the glass slippers sure did pinch those beautiful feet. It was then off to the after-ball event at the hotel at the Strathmont then to hotel rooms for the ones who were staying in town overnight and the limos or lifts for the ones who were going home.
