Parsons Beach Trip

We arrived at Paul and Barb’s shack just after 7.30 in the morning on Saturday, so we could join everybody else in cooking breakfast. We introduced our 2 dogs to the 3 already there and quite surprisingly they all made good friends. We set up our tent, then a big fishing trip was planned.

Paul and Barb, Dean and Chelsea, Ben all towed there boats down to the beach. Dean had a problem with the motor in his boat so took it back to the shack and came back down to join Ben, Andrew and Chelsea in Bens boat. Chris and Margie stayed on the beach to help with launching and Kate took Ryan and Rosie out for a drive in there car. Debbie, Sonya and I went for a stroll along the beach to watch the intrepid fishers launch.

There was a fight over who was going to have Andrew in their boat as he is always good for burley. Ben won the tussel so Paul, Barb and Ian were in one boat and Ben, Dean, Chelsea and Andrew in the other. After seeing our men off to sea we headed back to the shack to read gossip magazines and relax. We had the handheld on so we could listen to what sort of fish (if any) were being caught for our Beer’O’Clock. After a slow start the reports started coming in of Squid and Gar being caught.

The fishermen returned from there foray with a very decent catch of Squid, Gar, Sweep and a magnificent Whiting. I enquired as to the whereabouts of Andrew and was told he was walking off the churning stomach and ‘greenness’ of sea sickness. He disappointingly 'Burleyed' on the way back into shore so the fantactic catch was all skill and no cheating with magic Burley this time!

We all had lunch then some people went out for a drive and a boat was launched again for more fishing. Debbie, Chelsea, Sonya, Andrew and I all stayed behind for a frustrating and sometimes successful afternoon of knot tying making friendship bracelets.

Everybody was back in time for nibbles. Ben took Barb into the dunes to show her a different way to prepare Squid. Barb came back with a big smile on her face obviously happy with what she had seen. The bar was pronounced open and all the fish was cooked on the BBQ and we had an interesting time tasting the varying flavours of the different types. That started the usual relaxing time of Beer’O’Clock, then dinner. The campfire was stoked up and we sat around it laughing, joking and waiting to see if The Ninja Sonya would make an appearance.

Sunday dawned a little cool and cloudy. Andrew and I were packing to leave. A small party ventured down to the beach to assess fishing options but decided it was too choppy. Ian, Kate, Ryan and Rosie left very early. We said our goodbyes went on our way.

Thank you, to Paul and Barb for sharing your shack and amenities it was a fantastic weekend.
