Players Shazza & Eric, Deb & Graeme, Jasmin & Bruce, Tony & Perry and Jill & JC History Way back in 2003 the Wanderers decided we would go to Gleesons landing on Yorke Peninsular and participate in the Clean Up Australia annual event and we have been involved ever since. On that trip we played Off-Road Bocce’ with the competition being very strong I decided to have a championship every year. So the next year 2004 our Annual Off-Road Bocce’ Competition was borne. Champions2004 Jill & JC 2005 Kym & Chris 2006 Jill & JC 2007 Shazza & Eric 2008 Shazza & Eric 2008 Chinese Year of the Rat Late Saturday afternoon after a very exhausting day we assembled to start the long awaited stoush. It was noticed that the stress was too much for many with season ending injuries finishing their hopes. After much to-ing and fro-ing the teams formed for the start of the semi - finals. Let the Games Commence New amendments to the rules caused us to head for the paddock over the road from the caravan park, off-road means just that which includes no lawns as well. There were two groups of two teams with last year champions automatically going through to the finals. The semis were the first team to 15 points, these were very tightly fought contests and difficult because of the softness of the sandy ground the balls often had to be dug out to find the heat winners. Finally we had the two teams who would take on Shazza & Eric in Sunday’s sudden death play off; they were Graeme & Deb and Jill & JC. Special mentions to Jasmin & Bruce and Tony & Perry for their performances as the semis were very close results. To give Shazza & Eric some practise Tony & Perry played them in a friendly match with Shazza & Eric being thrashed. JC smiled and rubbed his hands with glee.Sudden Death Final Sunday morning straight after our breakfast we gathered at the paddock for the final. Sudden death, this is all competitors competing for one end closest to the jack being crown champions. JC threw the jack and the first shot and then it was on with all eyes on Deb’s unique stile with several pirouettes in her follow through. Shazza was all over the place, Debb & Graeme were close but Jill was right on the jack with both her shots and JC after his first shot being short his second gave them 3 shots, then came Eric’s last shot. As he let it go he made reference to Shelley asking why his bocce’ ball was greasy, it had slip as he released it and was talking about letting him have the shot again. Low and behold where did his ball end up but right on the jack displacing Jill’s shot.#%@&+# Shazza & Eric had won the 2008 contest, it just goes to show a-- beat class again. Well done for 2008 see you again next year. JC Disclaimer : please note |
