The Real Clare Campout

Although I love my husband dearly, I thought maybe I should add some interesting facts to the Clare weekend details.

Campers in order of appearance: Eric, Shelley & Bonnie, Bruce & Jill, Troy & Sarah (Hill), Gannon (Hill), Jack & Emma (Hill), Stuart, Karyn & Tia, and of course John, Kym & Sammy.

As we were settling in for the afternoon my mobile rang. The voice at the other end asked in his best English accent ‘Where the bloody hell are you?’ Jill informed me later that they had tasted the porridge, tested the beds and still no-one came home to discover them. Considering we were expecting Bruce & Jill to be bringing their caravan it was surprising to find it not behind them. I was concerned that it had ended up where ours had once landed!

When asked we were informed that they had been victims of the latest diesel/gas problems. Water in their diesel had caused their car to be towed several times that week, as well as run up quite a bill in new filters etc. Due to this they had decided that since the car was finally working ok, they wouldn’t push things by trying to tow the van, and braved the Clare hills in their tent.

After tea we sat around a lovely warm campfire talking about some very funny situations people had found themselves in as well as some equally funny, but not necessarily repeatable jokes. Bruce was heard to plead several times that some of his not to find themselves in the Magazine. Just as well I can’t remember that well, isn’t it Bruce?

Due to a conversation with Jack, Bruce and Jill ended up Bill and Juce. The strangest thing about this though was that they had been called this off and on since their wedding!! The group then went on to rename everyone else. While some sound ridiculous, we decided that some in fact sounded quite ok.

While John was quiet on Saturday morning, Sunday morning was very different. The ghost of Roonka appeared again, and when Bruce surfaced, his comment was, 'This maniacal cackle is much better, yesterday morning was too quiet.' Whether I like it or not the theme for the weekend went along much the same lines as already discussed.

Thanks to all who came along as well as the contributions to the weekend. We really enjoyed your friendship and company. I think the dogs enjoyed themselves as well if this photo of Sammy is anything to go by.
