Colebrook house trip - (Quorn)

Trip leader - Paul & Barbara (caravan)
Club members - Jenny (swag), Eric & Shelley (tent), Cathy & Garry (tent), Chris & Margie (cabin)
Visitors - Ted & Audrey Hancock (caravan) Barbs parents

For some club members the trip started on Friday. Eric & Shelley arrived at 2.30 on Friday and Barb’s parents arrived at 3.00. They were met by Auntie Clara. Barb and I arrived at 6.30. We would have been there earlier but we blew a fuse on the tail lights just as we entered the ranges that was a little unsettling in the dark.

After setting up the caravan and having had tea we all sat in the kitchen and had a good night talking and telling stories, Eric opened one of his home made beer bottles, it sure had a lot of gas he lost half on the floor. Jenny rang and said she was leaving at 8 in the morning. That morning I spoke to Clara to let her know that some club members would be arriving early Friday. She was looking forward to meeting the club members. I also said hello for JC who had to pull out due to work commitments. I had to describe him for her, my reply was short man with fire coat. I think she remembered?

Saturday morning we woke to a cloudy day, after breakfast Clara caught up with us again with her husband Raymond. Clara filled us with many more stories for quite a while. While waiting for Jenny and Cathy and Garry (for got to mention it took them two days to arrive) and Chris and Margie (they took a cabin at the caravan park).

After lunch we took a drive out to Death Rock & Kanyaka Ruins. Auntie Clara told the stories of the area I also jumped in and talked about Death Rock and its meaning. From here we headed out to Kanyaka Ruins for a look. Not forgetting to mention that Eric got too close to a kangaroo and is now missing two spot lights and has one cracked indicator. We returned to camp for afternoon tea and to start the camp fire, sorry try and start the fire with not much luck but lucky some of Clara’s friends came along and showed us how it’s done with much laughter and fun. From here Clara left me in charged of the fire while she took them through the Old Colebrook House where they heard stories of the stolen generation and many other interesting stories.

While they were gone Uncle Ronald from Nepabunna Community turned up, and I spent some time with him talking about all the good times we had in the past. I took him in to meet the others as well. We also had the pleasure to see and buy some Aboriginal paintings. We spent the evening around the fire, a lot of fun, food & drinks was had by everyone. Jenny took on the role of Rove and asked every one who they would turn gay for it took everyone a long time to think about this one.

Sunday morning after breakfast we took a drive out to Warren Gorge for a look and a walk. We all thought this would be a good place to come for a club trip. Everyone was heading back to Adelaide by lunch time. We stayed on for one more night to spend more time with my friend Clara.

It was great to take members to places were they have not been to before and leave with good memories’. Clara would like to thank you for your friendship and would like to see you all again.
