Morgan Training Weekend

We drove up to Morgan on Friday after work and got to the caravan park at about 7pm.

We were the first to arrive and there was nobody else camped on the river front side of the park, so we chose a nice spot only to find that there were 2 ants nests there. Luckily we spotted the ants before we set up our tent.

While we were setting up Graeme and Sharon arrived followed by Andrew, Sarah and Buster. We drank a toast to Andrew and Sarah recently becoming Australian Citizens and Andrew bragged about the fact that there were no scars from the frontal lobotomy.

After chatting for a while we all went to bed. During the night a cars alarm went off and woke us all up. Sharon shouted to Graeme that she thought someone was trying to steal their car until she realized that their car didn’t have an alarm.

On Saturday morning we were joined by the rest of the group who arrived between 9am and lunch time.

At about noon we decided to go for our first drive into the quarry and have a look around. Paul kindly agreed to lead us around as he was familiar with the area. We had a couple of visitors along, Aaron and Marty, who we introduced to rock driving as well as a bit of sand driving before heading back to camp for some lunch.

After lunch Fred took Jaquie for some logbook training while the rest of us went off in a group to practice our driving skills. There were a few challenging areas where we had to do track maintenance to get some vehicles through, but apart from that we had a good afternoon driving around. Thank you to everyone who helped out with advise etc to those with less experience.

In the evening we all settled down on the river bank and had dribbles while watching the boats and skiers on the water. This turned out to be such a good spot that most of us had our tea on river bank as well and then spent the rest of the night there chatting and having a few drinks.

Some even decided to walk over to the ferry and go for a late night ferry ride. The problem was that there was not much traffic for the ferry at that time of the evening and so they got stuck on the wrong side of the river for about 15 minutes until a car arrived. At least they came back with some useful information which they found out from the ferry driver. Information like how much the ferry weighs and what hours the ferry driver works etc.

In the morning Fred went back to the quarry to do some more logbook training while the rest packed up and said their goodbyes.

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined us for the weekend.

Just to finish off, remember to keep an eye on your cooking oil. Some people take other peoples cooking oil. Ha Ha (You had to be there to understand).
