Nuts and Bolts Day

On August 31st we had our Nuts and Bolts Day at our place (Geoff and Jeanne’s).

There was a really good turn out especially as the weather was a bit iffy. The fun began with Tony taking charge of putting up the shades. (It poured on us while we were hurrying to get them up.) After we got the shelters up and the BBQ off Tony’s ute, it practically stopped raining. (Thanks Tony)

We had a camp fire and about 26 people attended. Many came to share information regarding their set-ups for their vehicle and/or ideas for camping.

Grateful thanks to Sandra and Jill for the scones and cooking the snags.

Snoopy shared info on his new toy. (GPS)

Fred showed lift kit, storage facilities, water pump containers for minimal water use when out bush.

Damien had heavy duty recovery points and a neat fitting water storage tank.

Eric showed us a folding saw, cup holders off the doors etc.

Ben had a stainless steel shovel with extensions and his tailor made drawer system.

John Collins, well he had all the five star stuff he could fit into his vehicle, even an electric blanket (12 volt) and a metho fired kettle.

Geoff demonstrated Ferropre repairs on an old radiator and water container etc. He also showed how to repair a radiator using silicon and folding the tubes. He demonstrated arc welding using two 12 volt batteries as well.

The day began officially at 10am and ended at about 3.30pm and even though the wind was a bit cold people must have had a good time as most stayed a while.

My contribution was endless tea/coffee/milo etc and a boiled fruit cake.

All in all it was a fun day and next year we expect to have veteran and vintage cars and motor bikes join us as we have invited the Gawler Veteran and Vintage and Classic Car Club to make it a club ‘trip’ and it looks like they are keen.

Thankyou to all who participated with sharing ideas, practical demonstrations and help with running the day.

If I have forgotten to mention anyone I am sorry.

Jeanne (and Geoff)
