The Maiden Voyage of the Black Pearl

Participants: Shazza & Graeme and Jane & JC

Why is it so?
A few years ago when the movie came out Jasmin thought it was called "Pirates of the Caravan" instead of Caribbean. When we first got the caravan I told Jazzy we had called it the Black Pearl she said that’s silly it’s not black. To that I said it’s because "You, Nanna and Grandpa John are, (wait for it) The Pirates of the Caravan".

Ambushed
All was arranged, 3 of us were going to the Tanunda Caravan Park on Friday with Jane coming up on Saturday morning. Then we got an email from Fred reminding the committee of our first meeting of the year.

To that I thought s---- the meeting but while I was at work Shazza rang and spoke to Jane. Come Friday night instead of being in Tanunda sipping my medication I was being razzed big time at the wonderful committee meeting.

The Committee
They all said they were coming with us. But it was all a cruel hoax, where were they when it counted nowhere to be seen. Preparation and Arrival at Our Destination Ever since we have brought the Black Pearl to our place from where it holidayed for 3 months at Geoff and Jeanne’s property we have been getting ready for January in Tanunda. Getting up early Saturday morning it still took us until about 1.30pm to get there; Shazza and Graeme had been there since 10.00am.

We were there, that’s all that mattered, backed in place then set up what a breeze not like the campervan and we were soon sipping our chardy.

A Hotrod and Classic Car Spectacular
Bad luck for those who promised but didn’t show as unknown to us it was a Hotrod and Classic Car Spectacular in Tanunda with the main street closed off Saturday from just after midday till very late at night with hundreds of cars displayed.

These people really live the part with Elvis, Norma Jeanne, Jimmy Dean & Peggie Sue everywhere and all ages.

It was crazy but great fun as we walked back and forth from the park to the celebrations and of course we had to have our happy hour. Then back to "The Clubhouse" for our evening meal at 8pm as we couldn’t get in to be served any earlier.

Sunday all too Soon
All around us at the park there were hotrods and classic cars with often brightly colour coordinated caravans as well. 50’s tragics, guys & dolls everywhere with white blonde hair, bright red lips, greased back black Elvis hairdo’s and stovepipe pants at anytime of day or night appearing to be living the dream, what a treat. All the while there was either 50’s rock & roll or country & western music playing in the background.

Sunday morning saw all these guys & dolls made up with not a hair out of place lining up at the camp kitchen for a catered breakfast which was quite a sight.

Time to make the Journey Home
Breakfast in the van then it was time to pack up and head home worst luck after having such a great weekend. This Hotrod and Classic Car event happens every year in Tanunda on the 3rd weekend in January so next year we will run a trip here. A note of interest the club running the show was the Wanderers Hotrod Club what a coincidence.
