Trip to Balgowan: Clean Up Australia 2009
Feb 27 - Mar 1 2009

Attendee’s: Eric & Shelley with Bonnie the wonder poop, (I mean pooch), J.C., Graeme, Sharon, Blake and Turbo the wonder dog, Tony & Sandra, Chris, Perry & Deb and not forgotten Bill & Carol as visitors.

Well, it’s that time of year again. It’s time for the greatest show down of all. It’s time for the Wanderer’s game of 'Off Road Bocce', to be followed by the clean up Australia campaign.

When Shelley & I arrived at Balgowan, it was mid afternoon Friday and we were surprised to find we were the first to arrive. After we had set up our tent we decided it was time to de-poop the dog, so off we went for a walk along the beach. Upon our return we found we had neighbours at the caravan park. It was Tony & Sandra. J.C. was at the kiosk (we can only assume to calm down the manager). Graeme, Sharon, Blake and Turbo were not far behind.

Friday night was spent chatting about the weather, the trip over, work and any other topic that bounced around our minds.

Question: How do you slow down 1 giant Kalari 'b' double?
Answer: Send out 1 tiny dog named Turbo on a big mission.
Real answer: Turbo had a moment of boredom and went for a walk un-aware of the risk of the outside world. He also gave Sharon & Graeme a very large scare but everything is fine.

Saturday morning arrived in the usual way. Get Bonnie out of my swag so I could make the morning dash to you know where. Yes, the teapot (where else would I go?)

With the smell of breakfast, in the air people began to come to life. Things were off to a slow start but nobody was in a hurry anyway.

During the course of the day others started to arrive, Perry & Deb rolled in. Once everyone said g’day it was time to head down to the beach to get the biggest (or the first) fish. Congratulations go to Blake. He not only got the first fish of the day but also his FIRST FISH.

Chris arrived late morning to complete the group. Lunchtime soon aroused a few stomachs and the last arrival (no names) wanted to fulfil a dream (food). It’s hard to complete a mission when the clutch is dumped on sand. All I will say is that 2 shovels were used.

Late Saturday the bocce balls were let loose with the intention of finding a pair of players to take on the defending champs (Sharon & Eric). The play off resulted with Tony & Perry as the new contenders.

Saturday night and Carol & Bill popped in for a minute. (Closer to 240 minutes, but who was counting?) It was a wonderful night listening to Bill’s stories. Thanks Bill.

Sunday saw us doing the deed. We set off in 2 groups with a trailer in each group to scour the countryside for the thing that would bring us all fame and glory. You got it right RUBBISH. About 2 hours later we called it quits as both trailers were full.

Lunch then happened followed by the real reason we were here. The bocce finals were here, Sharon & Eric against Perry & Tony. On the outside we were all steely eyed and confident, but the inside was a different story.

CONGRATULATIONS to Perry & Tony as the new winners of the Off Road Bocce Championship.

Now we all know about the horrible fires that devastated Victoria and our thoughts and hearts go out to all those who suffered.

We also acknowledge and thank those people who contributed in some way. J.C. was one of those people. As usual he gave his all and asked for nothing in return.

Quote of the weekend ...

"All I want is to hug people"

Luv ya J.C.

From Eric, for the Wanderers
