Minarto Zoo ....
.... 25th October 2009
We had 14 members on the day for this outing and the weather was great for walking or being on a bus.
Arrived around 10.30 and booked in for the Grasslands Tour Loop.
This took 30 mins and we enjoyed seeing a number of the animals grazing in their natural surroundings.
This section included the American Bison and Mongolian horse, Rhino, Zebra and several varieties of Antelope.
The second tour was longer through the park which took us through the cheetah enclosure the African wild dog and into the Lion enclosure, which are so much bigger than you imagine.
We loved driving beside the stately giraffe. This was a great drive and we then went back for lunch at the kiosk cafe.
After lunch looked at the Meir cats and walked to the chimpanzee enclosure. This was great being up so close looking at them through the glass. Or were they watching us?
Myself, Tony and his sister Brenda from WA then walked to the giraffe enclosure and were able to stand on the viewing platform and watch them being fed. This was such an amazing sight with their long graceful necks and huge big brown eyes just captivating us. We watched them right beside us as they used their long tongues to strip the bark from the tree limbs which were hanging by chains on a feeding pole.
We caught the loop bus back to the information centre where we had parked our cars. Tony and I hadn't been to Minarto for 5 or 6 years and were amazed and impressed with how much more had been done with the park. There are more walking tracks leading to viewing platforms, new buses and functions centres dotted throughout the park. Well worth spending a day there.
Thanks to all who came along and enjoyed the day out.
Tony and Sandra
