Robe Trip Report

We arrived in Robe on Friday night ten minutes before the office of the caravan park closed. (We were pushing all the way from Adelaide to make it on time). Then set up camp and caught up with the rest of the Wanderers which included Paul & Paula, Tony & Sandra, Garry & Cathy, Geoff & Jean, Ian & Ruth, I was accompanied by my brother in-law Marty. Chris & Margie arrived early Saturday morning.

The group decided to go driving on Sunday, so on Saturday morning everyone did their own thing, some went to a winery others went sightseeing. We had a look at the main street in Robe viewing the sights. We also discovered a lookout on the coast, which was great for photos.

Mid Saturday afternoon/evening saw the Ready Steady Cook take place, let’s just say the group cooked up a storm & a feast was had by all.

With bellies full it was time for the voting. Thanks to the presentation of our Chicken a-la Yum, Marty & myself won first prize, which was to write the trip report Woo Hoo!.

Saturday night carried on with some of us heading out onto the beach for a night drive, this being my first beach night drive it was great!

Sunday we all headed out for a day of sand driving in the Little Dip Conservation Park from Robe to Beachport seeing a combination of dirt tracks, sand & rocks. With the expertise of the Wanderers, tackling them from all angles, some of us getting stuck, and a certain Pajero cracking under the pressure.

Everybody enjoyed themselves, I even got told to stop having too much fun. Thanks to Garry & Cathy for having me ride along with them in the afternoon. It was good to see how an 80 Series handles the terrain.

A quote made by Chris over the course of the day "I’m taking my shovel for a walk" is a classic in my book.

Another quote made by Paul in conversation later that night after talking to Jeanne about her annoying 4wd friends "Is those friends us" another classic!.

Monday morning we said our goodbyes and headed back to Adelaide carefully nursing a wounded Pajero all the way home. Also thanks to those who offered support in case we didn’t make it back. Guess what we made it home!

See Ya Next Trip!
