The Carrieton Gourmet Weekend 2010 ...
Wanderers - Shelly & Eric, Sandra & Tony, Colleen, Merry & Bill, Fred & David, Sarah & Andrew, Cathy, Gary & Tre, Kym & John and JC Fireries - Jason & Phil The Fisher Family - Jayne & Phil Need to Smell the Gum Nuts
For JC when the stresses of life mount up and attempt to suffocate me I need to get in my car, go bush and dissolve my whole self in the great outdoors that I love so much. That Time had Come The group were all at Macca's Munno Para fed and refreshed by the time JC finally arrived. After a lot of banter we were off to Carrieton. Our first stop was at Clare to pick up Colleen, Merry & Bill. We were also going to pick up the Hill's (yes you did read this right) but the passing Fisher Family gave them a better offer and they had left a little while before we arrived. ![]() Then it was off to Jamestown for lunch. After refreshment, fuel and relief we were mobile again. At Orroroo David needed to top up his car as he was concerned whether his fuel tank capacity would be enough to do the off road stuff and get back to civilisation. We were soon mobile to Carrieton. During this time there were some communication issues between JC's and Phil Fisher's mobile phones. Modern technology is great if you know how to use it but we needed John and Kym's assistance in translation. ![]() Yankamittie We arrived at Yankamittie at about 3pm and set up camp. At about 5pm Sandra & Tony arrived with their new off-road caravan and were soon set up for the weekend. Happy hour was upon us, so we did it, then it was time for us to go into the Fisher residence for our evening meal. We had fabulous minestrone & pumpkin soups, toasted savoury French bread slices and little boys. Off to the campfire partake our medication and inform the group with countless quantities of useless information. Then Cathy, Gary & Tre arrived and attempted to knock down all the tents and campers on site. Luckily he missed everyone's accommodation but only by that much. Saturday - Billygoat Track here We Come Off to Bendleby but along the way JC gets a chance to use his new winch to move a pine tree that has fallen across the track but who forgot to lock his hubs in --- you guessed it. It was easy when they were locked in. ![]() At Bendleby we met Jason, a mate of JC's, and with a little rearranging we left David's Suzuki at the farm house because it's clearance would have been a problem. So David went with Jason, Fred went with fireman Phil as an instructor and Ned (John) went with JC because he drives one of those Delica's. After a hairy rise and decent on the Ridge-Top Section we stopped for lunch. Barb-a-qued sausages & bacon on bread, it was scrumptious. Then it was off to the Billygoat track and it was every bit as hairy as it always has been. We all finally conquered its lofty heights.Homemade Hamburgers & Scones We were soon back at Yankamittie getting ready for the evening food and entertainment. We had a large homemade hamburger with the lot. Then the Fisher's famous scones, jam & cream. After our meal we were serenaded around the campfire by Bill and Merry with a host of great songs, thank you both. Let the Off - Road Bocc'e Championships Commence After JC's usual rule adjustments and team selections the championship was carried out. (See article on it in this month's magazine) Thank you all for your donations for the Royal Flying Doctor. ![]() From me thank you all for your company as always anything with the Wanderers is a real hoot. A Great Big Thank You to The Fisher Family Once again from all who attended this trip a massive thank you to Jayne & Phil for your generous hospitality! All of your assistance was greatly appreciated also allowing us to visit Yankamittie is very special. JC Disclaimer : please note |
