Gone Fishing ...

We stayed with Katrina for a month doing all of the tourist things. We went out to the reef on a sailing boat and went snorkelling which I thoroughly enjoyed, Paul had a little trouble with his moustache and the facemask. The scenic railway to Kuranda had been derailed and was still not back on track so we had to make do with a 2 way trip on the skyrail to Kuranda, Katrina now informs me some of the jungle scenes for Avatar were filmed from the skyrail, Katrina lives at a resort and so while we were there we had use of the lagoon pool, we made use of this facility quite regularly. Katrina and I had a girls day out "doing " the shops of Port Douglas.

It was now time to say goodbye and we were off to Mareeba where the weather was a little cooler, we even sat around a campfire at the caravan park. Next major stop was Karumba, time to go fishing looking for that elusive Barramundi I hooked up a big fish but it turned out to be a catfish then there was a succession of small Barra to be thrown back, we finally finished the day with a Salmon and a Grunter Bream at least we had fish for tea. We then stopped at Flinders River where two 70cm Barra were caught but not by us. We had remembered a previous trip to Lawn Hill so revisited this oasis, not to be disappointed it was still as stunningly beautiful as ever.

We had intended to stop at Gregory River alongside a crystal clear pool and running stream lined with Palm trees and Pandanus unfortunately we couldn’t stay Paul had a swollen foot so we headed to Cloncurry to find a doctor, it turned out to be Cellulitus resulting in a trip to hospital for five days and an aggressive dose of antibiotics, it's looking better now and we should be on our way again in a couple of days.

Bye for now

Medical Report ...

Just a note about the condition which has seen me admitted to hospital The name of this condition is Cellulitis it can be contracted through a scratch or sore from the shower, dirt or long grass and is not specific to the tropics. I caught it in my foot, it started with a tired foot then my foot swelled and there was redness around the toes. It was so sore I couldn't even stand a sheet over my foot. I have been in hospital at this stage for 5 days on an intravenous antibiotic, I was told if it was not treated blood poisoning would result. This is caused by a bug I was told to prevent it wear long pants and shoes and socks and to use thongs in the shower.
