Attended by Tony and Sandy, Paul K and Shirley, Brian and Kay (visitor friends of the Kelly’s with a nice 200 series Sahara), Paul C, Chris and Margie and Bruce and Jill. Off we went all excited for an Easter break at SCHMIDTS MUD AND SCRUB, LANGKOOP VICTORIA. Arriving about 10:30am Friday, I managed to fall asleep waiting around 1.5 hours for everyone else to arrive. We set up camp and head out for an afternoon drive around the property, through the scrub. Tracks had been designed with large holes, some of which had sand bases also a log bridge for us to tackle. Being almost as good as we say we are, we had no problems on the scrub drive. We checked out the mud course which would look interesting during the wet months. Saturday we headed off to Penola, whilst Brian misspelled it on his GPS and wanted to head for Penong. We had a walk around the shops and a meal in a cafe for lunch. We called in to a few wineries on the way back to camp, one of which (Di Guirgio) had a portrait of Tony and Sandy on their wall, with the words 'god created these people' for which we are grateful! Saturday afternoon we went for another drive only to find the track had been dug up some more by owner Chris with his back hoe, I wonder who talked him into that? Back at camp we carried out our version of ready steady cook, we prepared Beef stir fry, Thai pork stir fry with ginger and sweet chilli sauce, Beef casserole, crumbed Chicken stir fry, just to mention a few. Sandy managed to eat a fish dish that wasn't there so we were all impressed by that. The winner of the cook off was easily Margie with her boobootie (which wasn’t an entrant but I love it and she gave 4 servings throughout the weekend). Sunday came and the Easter bunny came 6 times (most impressive). The owners’ son Matt took myself and Brian for a drive to visit the dams and check the Yabbie nets, filling a bucket full of very large yabbies which he later prepared and brought back to us in the evening, cooked, shelled and marinated in salt and pepper with vinegar. These yabbies tasted beautiful, we couldn't get enough. We had a drive on Sunday through the State Forest, most impressive if you like eucalypt forests, whilst Paul K, Shirley, Brian and Kaye went in quest for a missing sink hole. After sitting around a roaring campfire which was stoked by Bruce and his allegedly stolen firewood (in which he said he was trying to burn the evidence), we pigged out on Paul K's famous wood camp oven pizza's in which we will change our constitution to include all club trips. Chris cooked a terrific damper, although he did cheat by using a springed cake tin inside his camp oven. Time for bed ... was that eastern standard time or was that central standard times or was that central standard daylight or eastern standard daylight saving time and did Victoria adjust the clocks the same week or was that last week, is it the same day in Victoria or did they have a leap year this year? Monday morning we headed off after enjoying a fantastic Easter. Special thanks to Margie and Paul K for feeding me more than anyone, Tony and Sandy for organising a terrific Trip, Chris, Vicki and Matt for being perfect hosts.
