Shakedown Trip for Our New Cruiser towing the Black Pearl
While booking out of the park last year we found out that the event happens every year on the same weekend, so we decided that we would come back in 2010.

When we were on the shakedown cruise of our caravan (The Black Pearl) 3 years ago we discovered this fabulous event. This year was the first time our new cruiser Hi Ho Silver towed the caravan.

Hot Rod & Classic Car Weekend
I arrived at about 4pm Friday afternoon and while driving in to the park I saw 2 familiar faces in a unfamiliar vehicle, it was Sandra and Tony in their new Nissan Patrol (very flash but not a Toyota). While we were sitting chatting about all things meaningful we noticed a Bill & Carol look-a-like Defender parked adjacent to where we were camped. It was Nicky, Lee & Sam, it was a nice surprise as we hadn’t seen them for quite a while. All the time this was happening more and more of the magnificent hot rods and classic cars were arriving. Shazza & Graeme arrived followed later by Shirley & Paul. By then the park was very full and the nearby jukebox started rocking.

Jukebox Entertainment
With clever conversation & medication the afternoon flowed on though to our evening meal. JC booked in to the Barossa Motel’s Baucus Restaurant for dinner for the group for Saturday night. Then we sat back and enjoyed the nearby entertainment which included a rock n' roll show in the park’s amphitheatre.

Let the Cruises Begin
Saturday morning at about 8am the members of the classic and hotrod clubs gathered at the camp kitchen adjacent our camp site for breakfast and then off they went on a cruise around the Barossa. While this was happening we made adjustments to towing gear, walked around Tanunda or chilled out in the morning then we all went for our own cruise in the afternoon arriving back though Tanunda just before the 3.30pm deadline for the main street closure.

Street Display
From 3.30pm until midnight the magnificent cars were parked in the main street for the hundreds of people to inspect during that time. Rock bands played in the rotunda and the jukebox played in the street.

Our Evening Meal
At about 7pm we all gathered at our cars then proceed to the Baucus Restaurant at the Barossa Motel for the meal reservation we had booked the night before. When we arrived we found a note on the door of the restaurant saying that it was closed for the evening. The Golden Chain Motel is probably a good one to avoid for any future visits to the area.

Vine Inn to the Rescue
We arrived at the Vine Inn just before 8pm to find they were booked out but because of our dilemma they said they could seat us outside in the front garden. So being happy campers we agreed. We all thank the staff of the Vine Inn for their support and service in our hour of need. What a contrast between the two venues.

All Over to Soon
Sunday morning I bumped into Paul while walking back from the bathroom were upon he said (looking south) what a lovely sunny day and to which I said I think it’s going to rain (looking north). B--l s--t he said, look over your shoulder I said and a short time later it rained.

All too soon the trip was over thank you all for your company.
