Members Jill & Bruce, Sandra & Tony, Shelley, Eric & Bonnie, Deb & Perry, Shazza, Graeme & Turbo, Jack & Luke and JC Preparation Organizing our campsites this year was made a little more difficult due to the fact that the kiosk had changed management but was not yet open for business. Information from the YP Council helped me contact Joan from the Balgowan Progress Association; she told me I didn’t need to book as no sites had been reserved. When I said perhaps should to she insisted not to and said I’ll give you site No. 3. I let our members know the phone number and they booked. ArrivalOn Friday afternoon when I arrived Joan from the BPA said I thought you were going to get back to me, sorry all sites have been taken by your club members (b----r). When I arrived everyone except Jill & Bruce and Shazza, Graeme, Turbo and their nephews Jack & Luke were there. I ended up with a non powered site squeezed in between sites 4 and 5. When most of us were settled in it was time for happy hour. The wind was a little chilly that night and just as Shazza, Graeme and their crew arrived everyone but JC said hello then went to bed. After set up and a little chat, Luke had a little trouble with his vehicle overheating on the way over, then we all turned in looking forward to a relaxing Saturday on the peninsula. Time to Relax As always the personalities of Turbo and Bonnie the dogs were amusing. Because the wind was blowing strongly which would have made fishing difficult, we decided to do our clean up this day rather than on Sunday. So we divided up into 2 groups, one led by Tony with Luke’s Ute for rubbish collection and JC leading the 2nd with Graeme towing his trailer for our stowage. We did Balgowan, its look out, Tipper Rocks, The Bamboo’s, several unnamed fishing sites and the Gap. Most of the rubbish was at the Gap with the galvanised iron and steel posts from an old shed which had been dumped there .Noticeably there were much less plastic bags and deposit reclaimable drink containers found probably due to the recycling and reusable canvas shopping bags. Also with this our third clean up in this location the long term rubbish build up wasn’t as evident.Back at camp while we were again starting a pre-pre- happy dribbles sitting up on the cliff we observed 3 teenagers down on the beach with their Holden bogged down to its under belly. So after a little deliberation JC, Graeme, Luke, Perry, Bruce & Eric went to the rescue. It wasn’t very long until 3 grateful young men and their Holden Commodore had be released and was back on the black stuff. Sunday ... back home againUp and at them, breakfast then some went off fishing with others relaxing and talking. Then it was packing up and travelling home. On the way back Shazza, Graeme, Turbo, Jack & Luke took our rubbish to the Arthurton Transfer Station. Thank everyone for this the Wanderers 9th CUA event. JC Disclaimer : please note |
