Clear Sunny Days ...

We made our way north to Fremantle where we wandered the markets, we also went in to Perth to visit Kings Park and Burswood We were lucky with the weather, although the locals were still looking for good opening rains. As cities are really not our thing we went up the coast looking for beaches and fishing spots. The weather had deteriorated good for the locals, we were disappointed in the lack of access to the coast.

We went to Coronation Bay on the long weekend which in Western Australia is a week earlier than the Queens Birthday and is called Foundation Day. Coronation Bay is the venue for a long board surfing competition this particular weekend so it was very busy there, it also rained heavily. Paul had been looking forward to Kalbarri for the fishing after reading glowing reports in fishing magazines, we put the boat in the river which turned out to be cut by numerous sand bars making navigation difficult. There is a spectacular cliff top tour, the camera got a workout here, then it was off up the river for the river canyon walk and postcard photo of the hole in the rock view of the river gorge.

We went in to Carnarvon this is a market gardening area of Western Australia and we picked up bananas for $5.00 a kilo something we hadn't had for months. This is where we encountered sandflies which we were to keep with us for over a week, I need to be a lot more generous with the spray. We went out to Exmouth and the Ningaloo Reef. What a beautiful place, the colours of the sea and sand are amazing, I say who wants to go to Queensland, I was tempted to stay longer. We managed to get back to the fishing, this time with a couple of fish, along the coast there were turtles just beyond the breakers.

Today we have ventured inland through the rich red ranges of the Hamersley Ranges to the town of Tom Price tomorrow the Karijini National Park.
