We waited for our grandsons naming day then were off around the West Coast revisiting some favourite fishing spots with some very good results at this stage the weather was still good for shorts and T shirts. We hit bad luck just before Easter with the car refusing to go any further just out of Smoky Bay we were towed in to the workshop fortunately there was a small campground next door for us to house the van. Now for the bad news the flywheel needed to be replaced, timing is everything this was Tuesday before Easter so by the time the part arrived the place was shut down for the 5 day break. With the fly wheel replaced the car was still not running so it was decided to send it back to Adelaide to check and fix the fuel pump, we came back on the bus which was an 11 hour journey. OK we were on our way again across the Nullarbor with it's beautiful cliff top scenery and long straight road. We took a side trip to Kalgoorlie where we visited the Miners Hall of Fame a fairly new attraction set up as a historic mining town complete with mine truck. We stayed in a caravan park attached to a mine camp at Kambalda we were allowed to use the mine dining room for a low price which included "crib" for tomorrows lunch. We went back to the coast, the area around Esperence is beautiful with the most vibrant white sands and turquoise water to the rocky outcrops and off shore islands. Paul slipped on the rocks and sprained his ankle but we still brought back fish for tea. We went to Bremmer Bay and were told salmon were being caught Paul caught a huge fish it must have been 15lb when we went fishing the next day I was anxious to try my luck but nothing was happening for me. Paul caught another fish and lost one and I'm still waiting finally I hooked up a fish it was a fight between the fish and me that seemed to go on for 30 minutes but was probably only 10 minutes it turned out to be 10lb and 80cm. We went on to Walpole to the valley of the giants and the tree walk around the Tingle trees. The drought has broken in Western Australia it just happens to be while we are here. We had just about given up on the south coast and the rain but ended up staying at Augusta to beautiful sunny afternoons and more fishing looks like fish for tea. Summary of bad luck: 1/ kettle broke 2/ tv broke 3/ surf rod broke 4/ sprained ankle 5/ flywheel needed to be replaced 6/ fuel pump needed to be repared 7/ jockey wheel fell apart 8/ MP3 player drowned Total price for repairs to the car $8,000 Barbara & Paul Disclaimer : please note |
