![]() Orroroo Friday 8th September the initial group of Wanderers met Phil, Jayne & Hannah at about 2.00pm in Orroroo. Then we all met Jenny M and from there we went on to the hotel at Carrieton refreshed before we all journeyed on to Yankamittie. Yankamittie Waiting there to meet us was Paul, Andrea and the 2 dogs, Fly & Zac. Soon Jayne & Andrea were well into preparations for the evening meal while the rest of us were setting up their campsites for the weekend. Due to the fact I had just recently had a shoulder injury I set up my bed in the lounge area of the main shack. Friday's Meal Bill & Merry came up Friday evening for the meal, the company and to sing for us as did Chris & Margie, Jeanne & Geoff, Deb, Dean & Chelsea and Stuart & Karyn. The food was great as always, including probably Phil's best yet scones with jam & cream. We were then serenaded by Bill, Merry, Alan & Jason in the shed / bedroom which was good as the weather was a bit ordinary. For those who braved it we had a wonderful campfire. As we all said goodnight Bill & Merry departed as they had to get back to get ready for an upcoming concert they were performing in later on in the weekend. Saturday, a trip around Yankamittie We started just after 10am, which gave our group who had come down from Birdsville to arrive. First up the hill to the east of the hut winding through dry creek beds and between countless native pines we proceeded on our exciting journey. This took us to great heights and valleys backwoods and forwards across the road into Yankamittie. Finally it was lunchtime near some native drawings under a rock overhang. It was a lovely meal of local snags, bacon & bread on a barby hot plate washed down with Billy tea. The Banquette First we had happy hour, then the banquette of chicken curry, lamb stew, baked vegetables, tomato pasta & cheese dish and several varieties of pizza. That was followed by apple & apricot crumble, custard & cream and tasty butterscotch pudding, what a feast. Finally came more scones, jam and cream. I couldn't scratch myself. Then another great campfire, good stories and a Wanderer turned 21 again, an evening with no drizzle unlike Friday night. Another Exciting Sunday It never ceases to amaze me how no matter what happens this great group of ours comes to the rescue. Sunday morning was no exception with Chris and Phil helping Terry and Gill get into their car that over night decided to remotely lock itself with its keys in the ignition. Geoff and a multitude took out Dean & Deb's radiator that had the previous day sprung a leak and repaired it. As always Wanderers left as they needed to with Geoff to a local government meeting, Jeanne to visit antique shops. Alan & Ineke slowly home nursing a broken shock absorber some stayed for a barb a que lunch visiting the old bits of very important junk in the area called the graveyard. The rest of us to visit family or old railway station or other things and as always your company was interesting and rewarding thank you. JC & the Mob |
